This week has been quite busy due to L’s absence. N came in to help with Tuesday’s tasks, and on Wednesday, Y, who retired last month, returned to assist with the work. Despite being on vacation, L was worried about potential issues and sent an encouraging email saying, “I know you guys will rock it!” which made me smile.

L, the leader of our design team, has an impressive 35 years of experience. He has dedicated half his life to producing the company’s publications, even before the advent of computers. It was fascinating to see some of his old work, crafted by hand with cut-and-paste articles.

For me, the most important value in a workplace is stability, which requires not just financial security but also a supportive environment. Meeting great people is crucial, and this company fulfills that criterion. Everyone here, including L and the other staff members, is kind and considerate.

My struggle with English makes me highly aware of others’ reactions, and I often worry about how people perceive my imperfect English. However, at this company, no one seems uncomfortable with my language skills, and they patiently wait even when I stumble. This supportive environment, while beneficial, has made me a bit complacent about improving my English. Still, I believe it’s an excellent place for language learning.

I’ve been considering going back to school for further studies. Even though learning something new like drawing or pursuing a different career might not lead to a dramatic salary increase, I wonder if I can find a more comfortable place. I’ve decided to keep studying, even if it’s just one course at a time, to continue my education.

The world seems to be changing so rapidly that it feels like constant preparation is necessary. Raising children has made me more anxious about these changes, and I find myself thinking more about securing a stable career and workplace.
