Thursdays are usually when our VP, Christine, tells me to leave early, so I wrapped up around 3:30 PM and left work. My husband usually picks me up, but since I finished early today, I decided to take the bus home. On my way, my husband called to say he was on his way to pick up a free bunk bed.
Our house has three rooms, and since I often work from home, I use one room as my workspace. This means the kids still share a bedroom. We have two separate beds for them, but I had been telling my husband that we should get rid of one of the old bed frames and get a bunk bed to save space. Since our kids are of different genders, we’ll eventually need to give them separate rooms, so I had been looking into loft beds. (A loft bed is a single bed elevated like a bunk bed, with usable space underneath.) New ones at IKEA, with tax, cost about $300, and even second-hand ones were around $150. I had been keeping an eye out for a better deal when my husband found a free bunk bed frame on Marketplace.

Buying Second-Hand in Winnipeg
I can’t speak for other areas, but in Winnipeg, most second-hand transactions happen on Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace. Both platforms have a wide selection of items available.

Tips! If an item is popular and has been listed for a while, try negotiating the price with the seller. (My husband taught me this!)
